Russian hackers target customer rating tool used on thousan…

The Russian hackers that targeted Ticketmaster and British Airways have attacked a customer review company linked to thousands of sites including Google, Bing, Facebook and Twitter.

Magecart, an anonymous group of cyber criminals, hacked into Shopper Approved to gain access to more than 7,000 sites at once, cyber security company RiskIQ has claimed.

Shopper Approved collects reviews from shoppers about their e-commerce experience, surveying their results to send to online sellers and multiple search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing and social media sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

The hackers planted malicious code into the company’s system in an attempt to access the sites that partner with it, in a similar way to the previous attack on Ticketmaster.

Shopper Approved was able to detect the malicious code and secure its systems. It has now launched a full scale investigation into the hack.

The company has yet to confirm whether any data was compromised or taken in the attack.
